Arson probe underway following Doncaster pub fire

A PUB which was undergoing a £750,000 makeover has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

The Robin Hood and Little John pub, in Main Street, Hatfield Woodhouse, has been left gutted by the fire which started in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews battled for more than four hours to put out the flames after they were called to the incident at 2am.

Two of the pub's three floors were engulfed by the fire.

More than 50 per cent of the pub has been destroyed by the blaze with the remainder suffering heat and smoke damage.

Crews left the scene at 6.50am.

In April manager of the pub Andrew Hempsall, announced a huge renovation after residents campaigned to save the Robin Hood and Little John.

The pub had remained empty for several years until Wykeham Estates bought the building for more than 275,000.

The new Robin Hood was set to contain a bar, community area and dining room.

South Yorkshire Police and fire crews are currently investigating the fire.
